Son’s grievance
Marriage led to endowment, and had to be followed by moving into a new dwelling. This custom, however, was not always followed. Often it was overruled by parental authority, future plans, in turn dictated by wealth and the way it was managed. The young couple could remain with their parents for several years contributing to the common welfare of the household, either voluntary or forced by circumstances, as was the case of Preda, from village Vârvoru. In 1839 he brought a complaint against his father, accusing him of not providing the customary dowry, and not permitting him to move out.
